“last night i lost the last of my humanity”

“last night i lost the last of my humanity”

that phrase above, is the first line of the third film.. “Cailleach”. a lot happened last night. it was the opening night for the princess’s exhibition.. we arrived at 6.30 pm.. “fashionably late” as they say.. before i got past the first room, 4 people had stopped me, to congratulate us on the films.. who was there? the director, and the curator of the IMA, the head of QUT Vis Arts, the head of QAA, the Minister for the Arts.. and about 600 other people….. Peter A, is back from New York, saving some money to go back again.. Chris D, is preparing to go to Sydney, but wants to keep in touch, and is very interested in artbeat, and i’m thinking about using him for the first exhibition in encrypt.. Di was really excited about the artbeat launch exhibition.. Chris H, is going back to see them without the crowds… Simone was really impressed.. the list goes on…..

the place was packed.. i haven’t seen so many people there in ages.. princess’s room was filled with people all night..all straining to see, and hear the films over the rabble of other people, loitering, waiting, talking, laughing..

the moments when the people weren’t quite so loud, you could hear the phone ringing, and then the arrogant call from Clayton “THE FUCKIN’ PHONE’S RINGING!” from Cailleach.. then the Aphex Twin sample in Premonition kicks in… silence… followed by Peter’s maniacal laughter in Messiah….

David Broker (curator of the IMA) was very impressed, and will have princess on his radio show tomorrow.. (same one i was on just a couple of months ago)

The Courier Mail has written up the exhibition as “Full Stop, explores the constant barrage of violence on TV, mixing humour and horror”.

let me think about that…. the only reference to TV, is the fact that the films are shown on three separate televisions.. each one is sitting on a plinth, shrouded in a mosquito net, protecting it, in a way. separating the viewer, from the tv, and the film itself. the viewer is aware that they are watching this from a distance.. the net acts as a barrier, and with no other light in the room, the light from the screen, gives the net an unearthly glow…. there is no evidence within the films, of ‘television’ being an influence on the characters, who perpetrate the violence..

despite the fact that it is princess’s work, i feel very attached to it.. responsible for it, if you like… but it was a group effort, and as Twisted Films, we are now planning the next film….. it’s Hamish’s idea.. and a brilliant one, at that… it will probably take months to script, and months to shoot, and months to edit….. but that’s what we want for this…. really perfect it.. Twisted Films, includes myself, princess, Hamish and Trevor. two virgos, two taureans…

i seem to collect taurean filmmakers…. the current total of my ‘collection’ is 5….
