it is purposeful.
it is varied.
it is direct.
it is amorphous.
it is influenced.
it is remote.
it is defined.
it is inconsistent.~Robert Barry, Eight slides from it is… Inconsistent, 1971, Slide projection installation at Prospect 71 exhibition, Dusseldorf.
i’m looking at words again. walking rows and rows of cherry trees, pruning and talking with my boss, John [for whom I will one day dedicate a work] about words, language, politics, art, theater, music, psychology, horticulture, weather, and all manner of other related and random things, I began to think about art, words, images and their relationships; how dis/similar they are to the relationships between people…
shrug it’s just a thought.
“People deny that words have anything to do with pictures. I don’t accept that. They do. Art is a source of information… the work concerns itself with things whose inter-relationship is beyond perceptual experience. Because the work is beyond perceptual experience, awareness of the work depends on a system of documentation… photographs, maps, drawings and descriptive language” ~Douglas Huebler.
“I will not make any more boring art.”
John Baldessari, 1971.
“find the words i say and find the feelings, evident and obvious, but somewhere underneath lie the words that i mean to say, the things i wanted you to know but don’t feel safe saying plainly. i hide my words beneath my feelings beneath other words until it’s all jumbled together and you can never quite catch the entire thing, just bits and pieces until you think you can put it together but it’s like the jigsaw puzzle, always missing the vital piece, the one right in the middle and you can never finish it.”
~unknown quote found among past backup files, I’m guessing it’s from someone’s diary, somewhere, possibly on d-x.
